The mandate of SHAILS Communication, as Service Provider for Global Education, is aligned with the Statement on Internationalization and Canadian Universities by AUCC (Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada), which

(a) Attests to the growth of interest, the effort and the extent of change that have contributed to internationalizing Canadian universities, and

(b) Encourages further advancement of this process by proposing a framework for action which should be considered and discussed in the context of each institution's mission, resources and priorities.

According to the AUCC:
A growing number of Canadian universities articulate in their mission their commitment to internationalization. This reflects the belief that an international perspective will assist us to maintain excellence in higher education and research, to contribute to the quality of life and to assure continued prominence for Canada in the world of the 21st century. All universities in Canada strive to strengthen internationalization by promoting most or all of the following objectives:

- Developing Human Potential
- Providing a Forum for Ideas
- Fostering International Cooperation
- Enhancing International Student Mobility
- Contributing to International Development Assistance

Canada's universities are committed to integrating an international dimension into their teaching, research and community service in order to improve the quality of higher education, to help position Canada more strategically for a future shaped by an interdependent world, and to support Canada's international development efforts. The general membership of the AUCC, having adopted this statement, is committed to further internationalization of Canadian universities.
